Default fueal tank prob.

I was riding along and I caught a dip in the road. my rear hit hard and i kept driving. later i noticed that my fuel needle is way far right, past the "F". I prayed, pulled over shut it off and hoped the prob. would fix itself.....it didn't. When i shut it off the needle just inches a little left of the "F". I assume it's the floater/sending unit in the gas tank. would my assumption be right? and if so how much am i looking at. the pain in the *** is that i would have to drop the fuel tank, so i will bring it to a shop. If my assumption is correct, can i buy just a floater, just fix it w/o buying anything new, or will i need a whole new sending unit.

I would think if the float came off it would cause an "empty" reading. This sounds like a wire coming off or a broken ground.

nah, it's been about 4 days now. I didn't hit something i just caught a big dip in the road. my rear bottom didn't catch the ground or anything, but it was a hard drop.

I had something like that happen before. With my last car, a 240sx, I changed my radiator. When I was taking it for a spin to check it out, the needle dropped way passed the E when i knew it was full. I pulled over, shut her off, cranked it up, and the gauge read just fine ever after.
