2.3L and 5.0L 91 Mustang difference?!
I'm thinking about getting a 1991 2.3L 5 speed Mustang for around $800...
I know really nothing about cars, but will air filters and performance parts for a 5.0L "stang" will work in the 2.3L?
I want some more power in it without blowing a hole in my wallet...
Thanks

the 2.3 has 93hp....not really worth upgrading unless you throw on a turbo. A K&N air filter alon will give you 2-3hp....with a cold air intake and exhaust you'll probably be at 100hp....

the 2.3 is a joke, unless you plan on doing a major swap, and spending some real money on a new engine, or buying a cheap used 5.0 engine/tranny, which will cost a bit to drop in, i wouldnt buy it, the 2.3 will get you no where slow.

he already has both the 5.0 and the 2.3, he just wants to throw the 2.3 in, in place of the 5.0 while he rebuilds the 5.0.... he just wasnt sure if the 5.0 specific tranny would bolt straight up to the 2.3. but i think he already got his answer. which seems like a no

I have a 2.3 in my Ranger 5 speed. It's a very reliable little engine!
That being said, it the worst engine I've ever owned. It's completely gutless in the bottom end and most of the mid-range too. Unless you want'a drive like a granny, you'll have to use 3/4 throttle, just to keep up with regular traffic. It averages only 18-19 mpg if you DO drive like a granny. It pooly designed for the mechanic.........I hate the thing, probably get better gas milage with a V6.......
