Do the Flowmasters seriously get ruined that quickly and easily? I was thinking of getting them for my daily driver (including winters), but not if they're gonna crap out under those conditions.

It depends on how old you are. I am 37 and flowmasters sound like crap to me. I had them on my '03 GT and I like them at idle but that's it. That fuggin 2K drone made me want to drive the car into a tree after about 20 minutes on the highway.
I swapped them out for a full magnaflow kit with their catted X and got alot of compliments on it. The magnaflows are not quite as loud but my neighbors still complained that they could hear me a block away and I still set off plenty of car alarms under throttle.

I have only herd the street edition, the quiet series flows on a 90 Gt back in high school. I have been living in europe 3.5 years so that probably explains a bit.

Here in Denmark cars are three times the price. I baught my Stang in Germany for a unresistable price. kids race around here in Golf's with exhaust and they feel good. Now Germany is an entire different suituation. I have also lived in Germany.

I think you will love whichever you choose to go with. I have Flow 40's on mine with stock midpipes and it sounds great to me. I live in an area with no emmissions testing and I've been looking at getting O/R X pipe, which is uncatted, and will make a little more noise. On a 97 GT that I used to have, I had the traditional true dual redneck straight-through muffler design with no cats and it was insanely loud. I loved that setup just the same as the flowmasters that I know have, even though I'm not as loud. Whatever you pick will sound better than stock.

Depends on what you want.....magnaflows are a straight-through design that flows better than flowmaster, but they sound too quiet at idle for some people. Flowmasters are a chambered muffler and while it sounds better IMO, they are restrictive compared to a good catback.
It seems like a lot of the people that posted are more concerned with sound and never even mentioned anything about gains...which is kinda weird.
