Default exhaust connections seem rinky dink

Hey,

Previous owner said exhaust was custom installed not to long ago. I have it off now doing other work and am concerned about how good a seal is being made between connections. Also there is some kind of sandy goop all over, just wondering what it is. Also a spot where the technician didn't weld completely over cut. Check out pics. Anyway, I have worked on exhausts before and there was always some kind of donut involved between joints.

Default RE: exhaust connections seem rinky dink

I've seen that type of exhaust connection before...
It is a joint that allows a mechanical seal between pipes without the need for any welding or bonding materials.

Sorry can't help ya much more than that
