Rear of hood raised at cowl. Can't get it down...WHY?
When I close the hood on my 66 Coupe, the rear at the cowl stays up about 3/16 inch above the cowling. The springs seem more than fine and I thought they hold it open, not closed anyway. You pop the latch and the hood rises so easily it almost opens itself. I can push down on the corners and it will go down some but still not all the way. The bolts are at the bottom of the adjustment range. How can I get my hood to lay flat in the rear? Do I need to actually move it back toward the cowling making the front pull forward and down into the catch, reverse the same towards the front, or what?

It's not unusual to have to oval out the holes a bit to get the hood to line up. I've had the privledge of checking out an origional low miles(under 40K) '66 & the body panel fit & finish was pretty bad even though it's never been hit. Personally, I'd try a fresh set of springs first before ovaling out any holes. I'd wager those springs have never been replaced & what are the odds that they have lost some tension over the past 40 years?

Thanks. I though about possibly rounding out the holes if need be. I know in 1966 these cars were mass produced and the alignment was not always the best. I've seen some very nice cars with alignment problems. I am to understand that too much perfection makes it less "original" and can actually detract. But oh well... On the springs...do they help keep the hinges closed as well as open? Some fulcrum of sorts? Like I mentioned, they seem tight as they "spring" the hood open (no pun intended!)

its the hood spring they are to stiff u need the shelby fiber glass repo ones! or none at all and a prop rod! or a length of chain attached to the hinge that u can use

I did not think I would need a picture to describe 3/16 of an inch at the cowl, being higher. Seems too me self explanatory but...
Thanks for the input. Anyone have any other ideas? I may try taking the springs off. That should be fun. Should I survive, I'll let you know the outcome! Thanks
