95 Mustang GT convertable...what is the widest tire i can get

On my 95 Gt convertable, i need new tires bad. Ive got 97 or 98 GT 17inch rims and im wondering what is the widest tire i can get. Im hoping i can put 275/40zr17. Anybody know for sure?

Ive got 245/50/17 on my 83 stang, I am pleased with those spec's,
