Default How can I improve the brakes on my 04 GT?

The brake pedal force needed on my 04 GT is a bit more than I would like. I know it's a matter of getting used to, but compared to other vehicles I've had, this one takes a lot more pedal force.

Are there low-cost ways of improving the brakes? Or will it take a $1,000 upgrade?

Well your best bet..... Going with a high performance break assembly...

But the force and length of the peddle needed to be pushed in shouldnt really be a concern if you stop right?

If there going all the way to the floor then there is a problem....

Yes, the car stops fine and stopping is not a concern. I just enjoy the ease and comfort of a soft touch brake pedal.

Like you said, these forums are for sharing information. so I thougt I'd ask.

Of course

I think though if you were too tighten up slack the brakes would not stop as hard might cause problems with master cylinder

My brake pedal doesn't need to be depressed very much. Try having the system bled, you can create a harder/softer pedal, slightly..by doing this.

with it being so new, I would take it right to the dealer where you bought it and have them check it over thoroughly to make sure the brakes are properly adjusted and the brake booster is working correctly. do you have 4 wheel disc brakes or drums in the rear? with rear drums, they could be too tight causing a stiff pedal that don't take much movement to apply the brakes. could also be the parking brake cable needs adjustment, if too tight it will be trying to apply the rear brakes all the time and this makes for a quick pedal too.
How hard is it to pull up on the parking brake? if it don't come up much, then it might be too tight. don't think bleeding the brakes should change the pedal feel at all unless you leave some air in the lines which is not good at all.

I have 4 disc brakes on this car. The parking brake works normal.

My 94 Explorer had the same thing. It took more pedal force to apply the brakes. It wasn't an issue of whether it would stop the truck or not. It stops. No question about it. It just took more pedal force. That's all.

I think I'll see about test driving similar 04 Mustangs on the lot to see if they feel different. I was just wondering if there was something simple like turning an adjustment screw somewhere.

Thanks.
