Hello all, I did a quick search but was unable to find what I was looking for. I apologize if this is a redundant question.
So, heres the problem. It's a 97 v6 automatic ( I know, I know, its my girlfriends )
When under light/part throttle, the car does a very noticeable stutter/shudder for a few seconds. It will do it off and on, at no real consistent interval or time. You can feel and hear the car kind of vibrate as it shudders. There is no powerloss or anything, I'm nearly posotive its trans related. It doesn't happen when you step on it, only at part throttle. I'm pretty sure its transmission related so I'm more or less wondering if this is a common issue amongst mustangs or if theres anything I can do aside from having it looked at. She said it has done this since she bought it and it doesn't seem to be getting any worse.

yea its your transmission. my car does it everyonce and awhile at light acceleration around 35-40mph. I brought it to a trans shop and they told me to drive it until it breaks or just fix it now, they told me i would need to rebuild it. its been going on for about 5 months hasn't got any worse if anything better so i say your fine for awhile.

Sounds like torque converter shudder.....its so common on Ford cars they have a name for it. Changing the trans fluid usually alleviates the problem even if its WAY before scheduled time to change fluid. Doesnt seem to be damaging to the transmission, mine started doing it around 75,000 and i have 170,000 now with the same AOD.

My 03 gt does that too.Goes away If I beat on it a bit>Took it to 2 dealers and they told me there was a shift kit in the car.It bothered me at first but then I kind of got used to it.I almost feels like the shuder you get from a manual trans when you leave it in gear.

I had this in a marquis. Had tran fluid flushed, all better!

Thanks alot guys, this is exactly the kind of response I was looking for. I'll try to convince her she needs to get the trans serviced. You guys think I could get under it and flush the trans without a lift/jack? It's stock everything. I haven't worked on her mustang before so I'm not familiar with the clearance. I know on my talon I can reach under the front and loosen the x-fer and transaxle case drain bolts without a jack.
