Tranny on last breath
So I took a long trip today (150 miles round trip) and my tranny took a big hit. Now when I press the clutch pedal in, it shrieks and squeals like a pig. It also just sounds very loud when engaged in gears and I hear a little scraping then as well. The pedal also feels very stiff, like theres no lubrication almost... Could it be low on fluid?
Any ideas on what this is or what I should do? |

A similiar thing happend to me when I was on a long trip but the problem was just my clutch.

How can I check fluid level??
Also, since I'm probably going to have the transmission opened upm, I'm thinking of putting in a performance clutch with a flywheel. How are the spec clutches (stage 1) and flywheels compared to king cobra? I need something very basic, this car is not going beyond the standard bolt ons and maybe in the very distant future, a cam and heads but I still want something more suited for aggressive driving than the stock clutch. |

I had a manual do that to me too. turned out the clutch face was glazed and worn. I think it is funny that so many Mustang people have a hard time keeping their tranny alive when so many Ford manual boxes, especially top loaders, can go for over 500 straight non-stop miles of 100+MPH and hard shifting.

That's the coolest sound I've ever heard. That mod must have gained you a good 15 hp...not to mention mad props from the ladies.

Sounds to me like a throw out bearing is going.Which isnt nearly as bad as a tranny.Id get a king cobra clutch over a spec 1 only cause that is the bottom of the line for spec.I have a king cobra clutch and have made 520 rwh so far on it and hope to make over 600rwh at the dyno tom.If you get a spec atleast get a stage 2
