Default How to get Weight Reduction on your Stang

Question, What can I take out of my 01 SVT to make it lighter ? (and don't try to be funny and say that the driver needs to go, or the engine, or something like that, I know you guys! LOL)

I never have more than 1 passanger at a time so I'm thinking of taking the back seat out, but don't know if that will help much. What do you guys think?

Why ruin the appearance of a nice car over what can't be more than 10 - 15 lbs of weight? Try some of these things, some free some not so free:

Remove the spare tire/jack/etc. - 20 lbs in all give or take (if you dont have a problem with calling a tow truck for a flat)
Get a tubular K-member kit - 50 lbs or so I think
Lightweight racing front seats, something nice like Ricardo - 15 lbs or so per seat
Run at the track with less than 1/4 tank of gase - 75 lbs or so vs a full tank
Fiberglass hood - 30 lbs or so I think
The rear seat eliminator kits - 15 lbs or so (Ive only seen them carpeted, if you insist on losing your back seat)
Battery relocate kit - won't lose weight but will help with distribution and better times due to traction

All in all, do all these and it adds up to 200+ lbs of weight loss - about 0.2 seconds or so faster by my guesstimate.

being that it is a new mustang it already falls into the fiverglass hood catergory,,, so scratch those savings.

i think weight reduction is just a desperate move ,,,any car with good power can have its track times and a/c too.

let me rephrase silightly,,, turbular k memebers and such i have no problem with but losing comforts and just plain ole ditching parts of the car like spare, a/c seats, carpet,,those are what i call stupid unless it is a dedicated race car.

You don't need an AC.
That's what windows are for
Don't need the spare either, just get AAA.
And if you never use the rear seat, why not?
I'm considering doing so in my daily driver.

When did they start putting fiberglass hoods on mustangs from the factory?

OB, Don't ever let me hear you complain it's hot while waiting to make a run at the track. While you're sitting there baking, I'm going to be sitting in my car with the AC on

I agree with not giving up all the finer things for a street/strip car once you take em out your going to wish you didn't. A few bolt ons and high octane gas will will make you faster without giving up compfort or appeal and just throw in a lightweight spare in for emergencys.

I would hate driving home from the track in 90+ weather with no air con blow a tire and get stuck on the side of the road without my cellphone geeeeesh wake up
