Big block guys could say the same thing about us smallblockers. No replacement, you know.

Sometimes the fun is in trying to do something that might be a little harder.

Not that I don't laugh at the 2fast 2 furious crowd myself.

True, but now days, the stroker kits basically give us small blocks with big block cubes.

you guys are right on the money...nicely crafted 392 would provide more than enough power....plus money would be left over to upgrade suspension to handle the power..</P>

funny sight the other day..now I am not against dudes that want to make their rigs faster.. more power to them... but this was just too funny. son and I stopped at a light. ricer in front of us all decked out in purple running lights, 10ft spoiler, fart can, lowered front seats,etc.. just sitting their revving his engine.. my 10 yr old said that the car was probably really fast (of course I had to tell him the real truth). stopped at a gas station and asked the dude what he was running.. of courseit was a stock engine.. but boy it looked fast...&lt;grin&gt;<IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0"></P>

Killed a newer Tiburon last night that was loaded with body kit, cage, stickers, fart can, and of course, the ridiculous huge "I'm gonna fly back to Asia" style wing with my Dakota of all things. This kid actually thought he was fast!<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">Kept reving up his whimp a$$ motor. So I kept reving mine (complete with Ravin exhaust) until the light changed.<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

I COASTED from the 1/8 mile marker tonight (clutch sliped in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd didn't want to go in.....bad run) and ran a 16.9......and still won against a CRX.

Meh...as its pretty damn obvious...I mod my civic...for more than 1 reason.</P>

I bought the car for less than most mustangs cost (at the same yr range) IMO it has cleaner lines, good power to weight ratio, and the mods are plentiful. I dont take it to the track, simply because I dont care how fast it goes in a straight line; the twisties is how it runs the best. </P>

For mods as of now I have just I/H/E on the motor and I have it lowered about 1.5" in the rear and 1.7" in the front. I didnt spend much on looks...because who really cares how it looks if the car is fast?! Although, I purchased an '98 oem Civic SiR front lip...which really added to it, I think. I also changed the rims...because steelies suck...Theyre 16"bronze Rota Circuit 8's (Mugen MF8 dopplegangers) w/ yokohamo parada spec II 205/45 tire.</P>

I plan on swapping out the sohc that is currently in the car for a dohc b18c (integra GSR) and build it for around 10psi of boost (max of 15psi)...which isnt that much of a build maybe just A/F tuner and a lower compression head gasket...if I decide to make it more boost capable in the future that is always a simple option...and VERY cost effective.<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P>

(this should happen within the course of next year).</P><edited><editID>CivicDriver</editID><editDate>37805.8529861111</editDate></edited>

that civic would have to be like 500 pounds to achieve a decent power to weight ratio man</P>

I owned a 91 DX hatchback for a while... uphill in the rain MAN would that thing ever lay a patch of rubber.

Civics are cheap to buy, and they can be made fast. But the money it takes to make them really fast would better be spent on a better car, in my opinion. You don't buy a Corvette to haul dirt.
Civics get a bad rep because any dumbass with $1500 can buy one, slap some unpainted kombat body kit on it and think he's John Force. Up until the WRX came over Subarus were widely ignored by the ricers because they are more expensive and didn't have the aftermarket. Heck, APC didn't make a stupid *** Altezza taillight for the Impreza until last year I think, and the taillights on Imprezas didn't change from '93 until the redesign in 02.
But let's be honest here. Any car can be made fast. I didn't buy my RS to be a little speed racer. I bought it because Subaru implemented MANY changes to the production vehicle in order to make their world rally car better. As a result they're safe and handle pretty well (after removing the factory tuned understeer designed to protect the idiots from themselves). They're a fair bit heavier than Civics are, and they cost more, but perhaps the standard power windows/locks, AC, AWD, etc. have something to do with it. Plus it's got way more power than any production Civic I'm aware of. The Si has almost as much hp (at an rpm beyond my rev limiter) but still has 20% less torque.

When I bought my RS I looked at the Civic, Impreza, and GTi. The Civic just didn't bring as much to the table, and the GTi had questionable VW reliability and there just weren't any in the state when I needed a test drive.

Bottom line is that the Civic is an entry level econobox that you can get optioned up to a decent level. They're designed for fuel economy, reliability, and longevity. The Si is somewhat of an abberation in that it makes decent power, but it's ***-ugly. There's a guy out there who's running 10's iirc in his turbo voyager. You can make anything fast if you want.

Some things are just far easier to make fast because they were designed with power as a priority. Which is why I got my Mustang.
