Default speaking of engines

ok im bored, but i looked up and compared a ZO6 vette vs cobra and got this info on the engines.

vette 5.7 405hp @ 6000 RPM & 400 @ 4800 RPM Torque (lb-ft)
VS
stang 4.6 390hp @ 6000 RPM & 390 @ 3500 RPM Torque (lb-ft)

from my mechinacally challenged eye (compared to most of you) id say the mustang has a way better engine concidering giving up 1.1L.

i guess my question would be.....
if you put both engines in identical cars would the race be as close as only 15hp?
and how much HP would fords engine gain being bored out to a 5.7?
thatnks

the z06 stock for stock is a faster car then the 4.6 becuase of more than 15hp stuff like airow, drive train, and most of all the huge stock rear tires, but if you put the engines in an identical car they would be hardly any differance in the cars, mostly the 5.7 will jump the 4.6 until the advantages of the modular disign takes over in the higher rpm range, at least thats the way i see it.

the rear suppension is killer on the vette...the 350 engine set up is odd with tq at 4800 which would mean the 4.6 would never close on it at high rpm

lol, yea dude, if you look at it that way a lot of these four bangers kill the V-8's. Some of these guys get 9 second cars without power adders out of some 4cylinders, you have to give them credit.

Yup. 120hp/L from the first gen S2000. From the factory. When Ford unleashes a 550hp N/A 4.6L then we'll talk.

How would you consider the stang motor to be better?

1. it's an iron block with the added weight of the charger ontop of it, where as the LS6 is aluminum with iron sleeves (that saves weight) and secondly the LS6 makes 405 hp without forced induction.
2. if you put both in identical cars, with identical drivetrains, identical shifters and the same driver drove it, the car with the LS6 would come out first.
3. If ford came out with a 5.7L V8 they could make that kind of power without the blower. I'd consider selling my soul for a Mustang with a small block over 281 cubic inches.

The 15 HP difference means nothing really, because the SVT motor is horribly underrated, much like the LS1 powered Camaros. Most Cobras dyno somewhere between 360-385 rwhp...at least they did in MM&FF in the article I have.

Coming from a Honda guy, HP per liter means NOTHING. 120 hp/L is great and all, but the car with the motor that makes that isn't built for drag racing, it's built with a high strung high powered 2.0 for weight savings and weight balancing (51/49 weight distribution) so it can go to the autoX and kill that way.
