Default tach problem???

My tach stays at 3 until I get past 3000rpm what the hell could cause this???

93' GT convertible All stock :-( for now.[&o]

Do you mean it stays at the 3000 RPM mark until you get past 3000 RPM? If that's the case...could be something jamming it or a worn out spring or something like that. They are simple mechanical devices prone to failure over time.
