Aluminum radiator or electric fan? Or both?
Hey, guys. First off, I apologize if this topic has been beaten to death. I took a quick look to make sure no on else had covered this recently and didn't find the answer I was looking. I'm having trouble with my '67 289 overheating slightly at idle. It's got a few mods: .030 over, .471 lift cam, aluminum intake, 600 cfm Holley, tri-Y headers. I figure around 300 horspeower or (hopefully) a little more. It keeps nice and cool when up to speed, which tells me I have an air flow issue. I recently put on a fan shroud (which it did not have before) and a 16" flex fan, but it did not solve the problem. My question is, what would you guys try next, an aluminum radiator? An electric fan set-up? Both? Neither? My budget is limited, so I hate to throw money at something I don't need. I know the alum. rads dissipate heat faster, but I wonder if an electric fan(s) would push enough air across my stock radiator to help. Any thoughts or advice would really be appreciated.

What kind of condition is the radiator in? also is it a V8 rad.? Have you tried flushing the radiator? If you do end going with an electric fan get the biggest one you can or go with two smaller ones, the idea is to have as much area on the radiator seeing airflow as possible, also if you go with electric fans only the it should be a puller mounted on the engine side sucking air through the radiator. TRy the above stuff and see if it helps, I really don't think a mild motor like yours should be too much trouble to keep cool.

Do they make them for the 99+? What do they cost and where can you get one? I would like to look into that seeing as how it was 96 degrees in the shade here today. [:@]

It's not Make/Model specific.
It just mixes in with your current Antifreeze/Water Mix!
As for cost, only a couple bux
and you can get it at Autozone or any local parts store
