how to fix up a 120,000 mile car?
I guess this is general tech, so this is a general tech question :P
My winter beater is a 2001 mitsubishi mirage with 120,000 miles on it. The wife took it out this weekend (for reasons she still hasnt explained) instead of her truck, and I chased her all over town jumpstarting it. The nice shiny + terminal on my pony is now all scratched up. I kept telling her, "go home so i can pull the battery, it's bone dry, it wont charge" but she kept "forgetting".
Anyways, a trip to autozone and a new battery later, i realize that I'm going to have to lean on this heap for awhile, and have a kid turning 16 in a couple years..
This thing isn't a mustang but it's been reliable, and i want to keep it that way.
Aside from springs/struts and exhaust work that I know it needs, what all would you do to a 120,000 mile car to try and ensure it'll keep running?
flush engine and go to a high mileage synthetic oil, is about the only thing I can think of
(I'm canadian originally, never owned a car this long - they've all rusted apart! This thing has no rust on it! long live the south)

Just keep up on oil changes, tune ups, watch fluids carefully, and dont run it really hard and i see no reason why it wont continue to run well, after all mine has 138,000 and still running strong.

ya i couldnt think of anything beyond basic maintainance.. i was thinking more along what to replace or upgrade to sort of renew it. it feels old and beat on. i guess suspension will go a long way there, and fixing that exhaust hole will put some pep back in that monster 1.8L i4
How about upgrades? I dont want to rice it out or anything, but i should be wrenching on this thing, and leave the mustang alone until the warranty period is up. Part of me wants to find a turbo for it and see what makes engines blow up.
