We recently got a 51 Ford, and the guy threw in a free 84 Mustang LX Notchback. For $300, I couldn't pass up this package deal!

So, now we have a 84 Stang devoid of engine and transmission that we think would make a great car for the strip. It was a former 4 cyl, so I will be upgrading the front suspension and and rear end for sure (then I just have a shell to build the right way).

The question is: What is the best set up for an 84 Stang? There are many 5.0 fans out there, but I have seen engine mounts for 351s, so what is the best engine-trans-rear end combo? Who makes the best transbrake equipped automatic? What are the best gears to run? I know this is a rather vague question, but there must be someone out there willing to opine on what they think is the best setup. Heck, if you have the best setup, let the rest of us know!

I would like to try and do this close to right the first time out. Heck, if I could put something together than ran 11s/12s, I would be happy and it would be a lot of fun to race.
