Default oil pressure looks low???

finely drove my car today,,5 miles temp was running about 180/190 ..oil pressure after it got hot was just 15psi, at 1000 rpms,,,,brand new motor 408,,i got a hi vol. oil pump,,running 5x30 wt reg oil for break in,,but at 2000 rpms hot was at 55 psi, .....i think i will just run thicker oil next time........how low is your oil pressure????? i got a mech., gauge...$hit![&o]

My oil gauge hasnt worked in forever.
Well, maybe it does work.

Havnt really ever looked at it

need people with mech gauges to replie!!!!!!!!!!!!!,,,going to change oil again ,,i change it 2 times back to back ,,,after builing motors,,i like to be safe ,,theres lots of $hit that can ruin your motor so oil is cheap,,i change after each outing to the track...

oil pressure seems just a tad low 20 psi is about right...I would drop in some 10w30 reg oil and drive to easy for alil while...did you gauge the space for the pickup to pan area...see what the new oil does and get a good oil filter..like k/n or amsoil/hastings..does this engine have a solid or hyd cam?

got a 7 qt. canton pan,,with correct pick up ..clayed it to be sure wasnt to close,,,i got a motor craft oil fitler on it,,,iam hoping its just the thin oil ??i seen in books were they run 0-20 oil and the pressure at ilde was alot lower,,,not running syn oil for now during brake in just castrol gtx 5/30wt,,,,going to change to thicker weight like you said ,,i always ran 20/50 before..with last motor,,i had more pressure with that motor,, o its got a soild roller cam...

You might try plumbing in a known accurate gauge.These things are ancient technology anyway.

Heya NOS/MAN - How old is the sending unit? I usually run 20w50w oil in the summer, 10w 30w in the winter
