3.8L swap to 5.0L
Hi, i own a 94 mutang 6cyl and i hate it. its far to slow, i dont think that 6cyl mustangs should be called a mustang at all. A mustang is known for being an untamed animal, and i can tell you from experience that a 3.8L motor is far from being untamed. But to the point, I want to take my 3.8 out and swap it with a 5.0, i have a motor and a t-5 tranny but i need to know what i will need besides the motor and trany, i need to know things like: what do i need for a wiring harness? do i need a stronger drivetrain? K-member?and anything else you guys can think of. Thank you, Jim

Im in the proccess of swap my 83 which had a v6 originally and now it has a 306but its the same for a 94. the only thing you really need besides motor and tranny is the wiring harness and i believe motor mounts. your v6 tranny will work with a v8 bellhousing. the biggest thing between the v8s and v6s is the rearends. all v6s come with 7.5 inch rear ends while v8s come with 8.8 inch. the 8.8 is about 35% stronger from what i've read and its easier to find parts for. so basicly all you need is the motor, mounts, wiring and figure out the little stuff like the vaccum lines and you'll be set.

on a 94-04 non cobra the gt and v6 brakes are the same, but a brake upgrade would be wise as the factory brakes leave a lot ot be desired. You will need everything from ecm to the flywheel and mounts, ehaust etc, look to spend about 2500 properly done. (w/o Brakes)

swapping to a v8 is a very simple process if you know what your doing. espcially if giong to a carb motor but that is a little drastic if your not racing it.

The time nor the money is a factor i want to do this bc i want a challenge. and im not dodging the 6ers i just preffer V8 over V6. And horsepower im not all to worried about, my whole family is into fords and everyone has there own unique **** so im not about to put a stock 302 in the car. It will be moded.

It sounds like a fun project... I always say the same thing when it comes to the V6 Mustang... Because you will need to get a new rear end, it is the perfect excuse for throwing in some 3.73s in there... you'll have that Mustang (I mean a real one) before too long... I think everyone else already covered what you need.

RE: 3.8L swap to 5.0L
has any body done a swap from a 3.8V6 carb motor to a 5.0 efi motor. I have an 83 v6 convertible in great shape but a bad motor I also have a 89 5.0 that the only good thing about the car is the motor and drive train. So of course my thought is good motor into good body and part out what is left. So anyone have any idea of what I would be in for. The mechanical part does not scare me, however the wireing and fuel routing are making me think about selling both cars and buying a boat.[:'(]
