want to change engine

I have a 2002 3.8 V6 convertable and quite frankly love the body but hate the engine. I'm curious what "bigger" engine (s) could I put in without having to change everything, and est. of the cost. Thanks

RE: want to change engine

i had a v6 too and i ended up sellin it for a gt
your better off selling it or supercharging it and changing the rear end
if you want a new motor, used 99'-up 4.6's usually go for 2-3000 but you should also do a new tran and rear end when you do it and you'll have to get the computer also
and find someone to drop it if you cant do it and that gets expensive also

there are a couple of companies that sell pp heads cam combo for the v6's
check out 3.8mustang.com its a v6 forum they give good advice

+1 your best bet is buying a v8 unless you can and are willing to do all the work yourself

If you're doing your own work, any gasoline engine that Ford has made will fit...just a matter of how much work you want to do and if you're concerned about emissions.

If you're going to pay to have it done, you'd be better off trading for a GT convertible.

RE: want to change engine

I found an article some time back about swapping a 3.8 for a 5.0 in an Sn-95 Mustang.

http://www.mustang50magazine.com/howto/4361/index.html

It does a thorough description of the process, but I bet it would be expensive. Might be better to trade up.
