so a quick rundown of items keep in mind i don't know what i am talking about, yet)

05 Mustang v6: $20k
crate ls7: $15k
tranny: $10k
-----------------
$45k

What other big ticket items am I missing ( > $1k)?
I know the LS7 is $15,000 for the crate motor. However, I'll tell you this much. I just ordered an LS2 crate motor for a project, because the LS7 was pushing the cost a little too high. By the time I was done and the order was complete for the LS2, it was just a shade shy of $21,000. Figure almost 30K for the complete LS7 and trans. The $15,000 isn't the complete turn key motor. BTW...If you look around, Street and Performance sells the LS7 crate for $13,000. Thats the cheapest I've seen it.

Your going to need a custom K memeber figure $500 for the part and another $7-800 to have modified. Will the trans fit the Stangs tunnel? If not that major work. What about the rear end, thats going to be another $2-3000. Labor for a project of this scale will be in the $30,000 area after all is aaid and done. Also there are VERY few shops around that will/can do a project like this, many will say they can but few actually have what it takes. I am all for big, cool projects but if this is your first "project car" you are really in over head here. A better, cheaper, easier and more fun project would be to buy a GT and put a blower on it or somthing similar. A project might seem fun, but after it has been at a shop for 2 years and the bills are coming due and you have not even drivin the thing, the fun wears off.

Thank you all for your feedback. I think you have succesfully talked me out of the z06 crate. My goal was to have a sleeper car of sorts. Have a car that looks stock v6, but will tear ya a new one. Is getting a GT and modding that as close as i will get?

If you want a project car id buy a beat up older mustang and restore it. Use a carb'd engine so you dont have to deal with as much wiring.

Not to mention what you are speaking of is sacrilege. A Bowtie under a Blue Oval bonnett??? Might as well put a Tercel motor in a Rolls. It is just as disgraceful to the breed. I dont even like it when there is a 350 in an old Ford hot rod, its just not right.

Just my opinion...

I've seen a k-member for sale online that supports mounts for an ls1 (possibly modifiable for the ls7?)...
There really is no safe place to post a question like this... prolly gonna get flamed where ever you go, but in my opinion, the ls7 is a god of an engine with potential to boot. Not to mention, having a truely unique ride can bring pride to any driver.

Heck, just drop a 514 big block between the fenders. It'd be Ford in a Ford and would rape just about anything on the road...assuming you could get traction.

I put the running horse emblems from a '65 Stang on the side of my '03 and most people think it's a sixer...even with the scoops and dual exhaust. It doesn't take much to fool an idiot.

or go buy the 428 cobra jet motor and bolt it right in. ~520hp ~500ft-lbs. complete turn key is around 13-15K. from what i saw. then factor in wider tires and any electronics you might need. o, and get a new edge since the 05+ are drive by wire and require one of hte new motors with out a complete overhall of the electoncs( i think.someone correct me if im wrong).

I've noticed a lot of suggestions for different motors. My thought on the ls7 engine is that it seemd to have a lot of room to grow, or was that an incorrect assumption. Are these other engines that you guys mention similar or better even? When it comes to work like this, I would like to stay with the 05+ stang. Does it matter if i get a v6 or gt if i am just going to pull the engine ?
