that price at Jeg's is about $300 more than the price listed in the 2004 Ford Racing Parts catalog unless the demand has pushed the price up. FRPP shows this same engine at $5995.00 and the 1999 4.6L 4V engine at $5795 under part # M-6001-C469. I would check out some other big mail order dealers like Summit Racing or Holcomb Motorsports who both sell lots of FRPP stuff to see if they don't have them cheaper than Jeg's. you could also check out Sean Hyland Motorsports for some really hot race motors too.

I also just noticed it has a compression ratio of 9.5:1 as compared to the Cobras 10:1, but I'm not really familar with compression ratios so I don't know if that good or bad.

I wouldn't worry about the deep stroke or compression ratio differences since Ford has taken the 5.4 L engine for the '04 F150 trucks and made 300 HP with it. you might want to see about getting the truck engine instead! LOL
BTW, a general rule of thumb about compression is that the higher the compression ratio, the more power the engine can make provided it's naturally aspirated not boosted with SC or turbo chr'd. Pro Stock drag racing engines run in excess of 16:1 compression ratios to make over 1300 HP with just carbs.

Dude, if you have all that money to put a new motor in it why not take that money and dump it into your existing motor? You know you could turbo or supercharge that thing for less then what you are going to pay for a new motor?
Oh, and.....
Cobra R's are the bomb...Get them...

I went w/ the Bullitts (Chrome, 18x9) b/c a kid at my school has cobra R's, a guy at my work, and someone in the neighberhood... You get the picture.
I was just saying it would make sense if you went w/ the 5.4L
Although... If you think about it, w/ the 5.4L you're getting A LOT of potential, but still not making huge hp. If you went w/ a used '03 cobra motor (w/ blower I assume) w/ $1k you're way up in the HP numbers...
Not to mention the 4.6L has to be lighter than the 5.4

the 03 cobra engine ways a lot more than the 4v 5.4. with both engines you will need a new hood. you also have to have new harnesses for the ECU, new rear end, new tranny, new k-member and a lot of other stuff that you would not even think about. and after all that money you would still only have 400 hp at max. go with the 4.2 stroker, a turbo and an 8.8 rear end and you would have saved money and weight and show every one what the v6 can do to their 8-cylinder egos

I well know that headache feeling! LOL I've been thinking about what to do with my engine for a long time and then today at the track I'm talking to this young guy with an '89 GT Auto and he's running a full second quicker than me in the 1/8 mile and he says all he's done is change the cam to one with .498" lift and install a set of AFR 165 heads! He also was running a 27.5 x 10.5 slick which is slightly larger than my 26 x 9 slick. so do I spend around $1,500 or so and keep my stock short block or what????? Decisions, decisions, decisions![:@]

RE: Is This a Good Price for a Cobra Engine?
i hve a cam on the way. that should give me another major jump in power. i am talking 260-270 wheel hp and a similar jump in torque. that with a fully ported intake manifold should bring mewithin throwing distance of 300 rwhp. i am doing the 4.2 stroker as well as the morana race heads ($3000) with a vortech. the only two turbo kits for v6 stangs are terrible. you cannot change the turbo without fabbing up new headers and they are near impossible to tune without a dyno. www.rpm-mustangs.com has cams for the v6 for $200. anyways one of my freinds just bought a navigator with the 4v 5.4 and he cannot find anything for it. if you really want to do an expensive engine swap go with the 6.8 liter triton v10 from an f-250. i have only seen that done twice. once in australia and the other time a guy did as a business card for his body shop.
