Lighting issue

I have a 2000 Ford Mustang (unfortunately a 6-cylinder). I'm having an issue with the dome light. When I close and lock the doors, the dome light stays on. I can't figure out why it doesn't go off. It will eventually go off when the battery saver kicks on. The problem is that the light stays on for easily more than 5 minutes. If any one has any suggestions as to what could be the issue, please let me know. Thanks.

Since the car's a 2000, I doubt that that's his problem.

Does the same thing happen when either door is opened, or only the driver's? If it only happens with the driver's door, the problem is most likely the door pin switch. It's an easy replacement and shouldn't cost a lot for the part.

The problem occurs when either door is opened. That is what is confusing. Either both switches are bad, or there is something else wrong. Thanks for your advice and if you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Oh yeah, and he is right, since the car is a 2000, it does not have a hatch.
