How to burn out an auto...?
how bad is it on an auto tranny to put it in neutral rev and throw it in drive? also...would having it in drive and holding the brake, revving, and then dropping the brake work?

It's extremely bad for it.
The second idea is called powerbraking. Rev untill tha car wants to move forward, back off a LITTLE, then release the brake. It's like dumping a clutch.
To burn out in an auto: put in low. Stand on your REGULAR brake. Mash the gas.

The reason I prefer to put it in low (or 1), is because usually that's a climbing gear, and has a short ratio. It lets the tires break free faster if the tranny doesn't start in that gear from a stop.
It's not bad to shift on the fly, you just don't get anything good outta it (and I hope your reverse block out is in effect).

your u-joints will love you for rev'in it up and dropping it in drive. I always drop in 1st while doing my burn out shift up to 2nd to roll out...hard on the drive train to have the wheel spinning and you let completly off the gas
go to the track to see it done
