Default premium octane and synthetic oil

Would I be better off running premium in my 3.8 97? I know some cars like the newer GT's recommend running off premium but i'm not sure if theres a point to do it on my 3.8. I'm sure it will be better though I just kind of want to hear from peoples experience that running on higher octane on a single port will do any good.

Also if I switch to synthetic oil, how often will I have to change it? Every 20,000km or something as opposed to my regular 5,000km?

Run whatever octane it says for you to run in your owners manual, no more. Unless you have mods that NEED higher octane it makes no sense of benefit to use premium if regular grade works fine in it.

Synthetic oil use doesn't necessarily mean you can extend your oil change interval, unless it is that "extended range oil" & it says so on the bottle

There is absolutely no reason to run premium gas in something that does not require it.The owners manual will tell you what octane to run and in a V6 it is going to say 87.You get no benefits from the higher octane and can even have bad results from the extra octane causing build-ups on the intake valves and in the combustion chambers.
Oil should be changed according to use.If you drive mostly short trips then change the oil every 3000 miles.Driving longer trips will let you go to 5000 miles between changes. If you can go out and look under the oil filler cap and see a milky white substance in the cap after a normal trip, you should change the oil at 3000 mi.Long interval oil is something I don't trust. Here's a link to a very good oil site.

Three months is a good interval for changing oil when the mileage change isn't due.

syntheticlasts a long time... the filter is what needs to be changed - but there is no issue running full syn for 15k miles - as long as it wasnt the first change over - wait till the 2nd or 3rd change to go all the way to the 15k mile mark - I did 3k then 5k then 15k

If you buy matched oil/filter, you can go 25k miles on each without changing either. Amsoil is one brand, and I think Redline is following...not sure on Redline, though.
