HELP Needed!! changed fuel filter now key won't turn
I just got done changing the fuel filter on my 2000 mustang and I took it off the jacks and the key won't turn. I need help fast I need to drive to work monday morning!
Here's what I did : 1) Jacked up car and put on stands 2) Disconnected fuel cutoff switch in the trunk and took off gas cap 3) Took off old filter and installed new one. Some gas sprayed out while doing so as system was still pressurized? 4)Took car off stands reconnected fuel cutoff switch and now the key won't turn! |

Move the steering wheel side to side (like you're turning) while trying the key. Sounds like the steering interlock is stuck is all.

its prolly the wheel lock, and as for the pressure in the gas line after you disconnect it in the trunk you are supposed to run it to depressurize it after disconnecting it

Turns out it was the interlock...man an I stupid! Thanks for your help and I'll make sure to run it next time to depressurize the fuel line, that was kinda scary seeing all that gas spray out not to mention it smelling up my entire house.
My next project is to clean the MAF sensor/throttle body and run some seafoam through the pcv system. |

just the fumes getting you high, we understand

Actually, you can just let the car sit overnight. I do that and only get dribbles of gas (what I would expect from any gas line). You can disable the fuel pump and start the engine, but you'll be running it lean and it may not even start. If you run the engine with the fuel pump enabled, you'll pressurize the system and it will take some time to depressurize, how long depends on the quality of your system.

Haha yeah must of been all those gas fumes :). I'm just glad I got the original fuel filter replaced and didn't wreck anything else in the process.
This being my first mustang and ford vehicle I'm really enjoying it so far [sm=wootwoot.gif] 2000 Black 3.8 49,000 auto |

I bought a spray can of CRC MAF cleaner from pep boys. I plan on cleaning that along with the throttle body this weekend. There is a tutorial floating around online somewhere.
