RE: high mileage mustang how much life is left
Any car on a dealer lot, or for sale in someones driveway has more than likely seen some ugly beat downs in its lifetime.
IMO, if you are going to buy a high mileage car, buy one private sale, since it'll be cheaper and leave you with some money for repairs.
Buying ANY car, you should have atleast $1500 in your pocket ready to spend in the first 12 months of owning it.A lot of people just 'patch' boo-boo's long enough to sell the car and get out of the 30 day warranty if your state requires one with a private or dealer sale. You can find 50-70k mile 99-04 GT's for cheaper than that...

First of all, the price is too high, way too high....even for a dealer.
Don't consider buying that car my friend....thats my advice.Just because of the price...
My Mustang 2003 was after 3 years with miles31.000 worth $12.000,according to Ford Dealer....cause I least my vehicle first before purchasing it.
So a Mustang with over 100.000 miles for $11,995 is just insane, and this dealer is just waiting for a dummie to show up.
Don't do this...
That Mustang has a face value of less than $7.700, now do the math...and no warrent, and on top from a private dealer? I don't think so....do not even bother test druving it.
I have seen Mustangs year 2002, with 60.000miles for like 9.500, with 50 - 50 limited warranty....shop around, don't just look in your area...extand your search on at least 100 miles etc etc...
But bottom line...its not the miles...its the price that right away back me off this car.Its sick asking for a price like that....just amazing!

100K (now 200K) 89 GT that was my daughters.
I have a BENDPACK lift in my 1860's garage
and could do most of the work. But a thermostat
change was way too much work and not the
right tool, so off to the local garage, hence
$75. Also it went defective one year later.
I even attempted the ball joint that BROKE
on the left front while driving>>>>
But no press as part of my tools so off to
the local garage ($75 tow).
I'd still buy it again, and I suggest you
consult KBB and look around for a nice
GT at or below book. There is always a
guy with a nice GT that needs money.
As for the mileage, KBB really takes into
account for what it is. And the seller also
knows (even a dealer).
Good Luck

Thats too much for that many miles. I bought mine with 105k with all the mods in my sig for 8k.
As far as the life left in a high mileage motor, that just depends on how it was maintained and driven. I've seen cars with 50k running like crap because people drive them hard and dont maintain them. On the other hand, my department has patrol cars with over 200k that still run great because were are very careful about keeping up with proper maintinance.

RE: high mileage mustang how much life is left
welcome. make sure when you test drive it you drive it like you stole it. if something is gonna break it will do it then. also if its a stick make sure you
are not easy on the shifting. listen for grinding mainly from 1st to 2nd that will help tell you if its been babied or rode hard and put away wet. if its a auto trans than floor it through the gears make sure it doesnt shift to hard or slip also check fliud condition. listen for and chattering or knocking under heavy acceloration. check simple stuff like all fluid conditions like oil for moister or metal flakes, trans fliud for moister or if its black you might have som etrans issues down the road, coolant for signs of rust or oil. check the air filter that can tell you alot one if its completely black than you know the last owner as well as the seller did not maintain it. check tires for cupping, feathering, or un even wear that will tell you if the balance and
alignment had been kept up. and if just the outside edge of the tire is worn than someone might have cornered heavily in it. also abnormal tire wear can be a sign of a faulty front suspesion part.
