Educate me guys! (Roundy, your $.02 is required)
Explain Balancing a Blueprinting an engine to me. I kina know what it is but not totaly sure. Ive looked online and cant find any explaination about it. I knew you guys would know and wouldnt mind teachin me a thing or two. Thanks in advance.

that's good but not the best explanation I've seen. the balancing part was OK as far as it went.
the blueprinting part left out quite a bit, but basically what blueprinting means is to do all the machining operations on the block and all the parts to the exact factory specifications with everything referrenced to the centerline of the crankshaft in the block. factory manufacturing allows for tolerances and these tolerances can "stack up" such that the finished product doesn't quite meet all the design dimensions as precisely as the designer wanted it to. blueprinting an engine means that every dimension is measured and the machining done so that each part is as near identical as possible with very tight tolerances. casting the block involves using "cores" in the sand molds used to cast the blocks and these cores can shift leaving the centerline of the cylinders not directed in line with the throws on the crankshaft or exactly square to the face of the block also. the blueprinting process starts with establishing the exact centerlines of the camshaft and crankshaft in the block and machining the bearing bores and caps so that the precise design dimensions are obtained and then the block is decked to ensure it is parallel to and square to the crank centerline. a full blown race engine blueprinting results in an engine that has the minimum friction losses due to the moving parts being perfectly aligned with each other and the cylinders or bearings they move in. this maximizes the horsepower potential of the engine and greatly reduces the stresses and strains on the parts when things are aligned just right so the engine can survive many long hours at high rpms under load. combined with a good dynamic balancing job on the rotating crankshaft assembly, this provides the best possible engine for making torque and lasting a good long time.
