Rust
 

While out looking at cars today, we noticed that a lot of mustangs had rust under the dash and a lot of other places.

We believed at first it was just a tendency of the convertibles because it is so humid here. Then we looked at a real nice 2003 coupe and found it on that car as well.

Has anybody else noticed this with their cars?

Yea somewhat, when I removed my dash cluster I noticed some spot rust on the crash tube behind the dash - its just regular steel tubing so theirs nothing to prevent the rust - its not a big deal though doesn't bother me - it will NEVER rust badly or even enough to consider it "rusted" unless you sink your car to the bottom of a lake

you'll find clips and all will have rust caorse no one see's this

My husband is an aircraft mechanic for F-15 wings's and his job is to eliminate corrosion which explains our concerns with rust.

With the first car, he thought maybe the car was involved in a flood because the top was just replaced, then with the 2nd car, we thought it was because of the humidity. Then with the 3rd car, we realized maybe it just was the way the cars are.

We are just making an observation.

Oxidation will form on all metals when exposed to humidity/moisture if that metal isn't treated or plated...it's the same thing that you see happen to brake rotors that aren't plated....I would say it's nothing to worry about...I wouldn't think that it would turn into "corrosion".
