Default CD Error on Mach 460 cd-changer

I just got a used 2001 GT convertible with the Mach 460 stereo system and 6-disc in-dash cd changer. The display says CD Error and Slots Full (or something like that). I don't think there is anything in it but the door opens/closes and I hear motor whirring but then it just says CD Error. Any suggestions (aside from replacing it)?

TIA

This isa real common problem. I used to be able to get mine going again after a "cd error" by pulling the fuse to reset it but eventually nothing would get it working again. The in dash changers are junk. It will have to be replaced.

What are my alternatives for replacing it? Would I just be throwing money away by getting it fixed or replacing it with the same type of model? If I went with aftermarket, does anything look "stock" in there...I just prefer the stock look.

Thanks for the help

Sounds like there is a CD stuck in the changer. I had that happen once, and was able to get it out by just pushing the eject button over & over again. Some have suggested to use another CD (one you don't care about lol) insert it & eject, & that can help clear the clog.

My CD changer has otherwise worked great & I like it pretty good for a factory head unit. Most of the time I hear people have problems is when they play CD-r's they created themselves. Cheap brand blank CD-R's are slightly"thicker" than a regular CD, not much but just enough to jam in some players. In that case it isn't the players fault.

You might be able to replace it with another stock Ford unit. I don't know if any of their other models are decent or not or if they will plug right up. All I know is my changerwas crapped out when I bought my car too and I see about a post a day from a new person asking why their changer isn't working..

Thanks for the replies. I do not see a CD stuck in there but maybe I'm blind or it's just hard to see. I'll try screwing around with it some more as it doesn't appear I can really make it any worse ;-) Will it say "Slots Full" because of the error even if they are not full? Ugh...

Assuming I can't fix it, where can I buy a used (working) or refurbished unit? Are there any aftermarkethead units that are plug and play with the mach 460 system? Seems like there would be a market for one [8D]

When I last dealt with mine it said it was full and there were no cd/s in it. Try pulling the fuse on it and see if that does anything.
