Which AFR 165's?
I've decided to get the AFR 165's, but i'm not sure on which ones to buy.
On AFR's website i found: 165cc Street Heads, Stud, 58cc 1402* 165cc Street Heads, Pedestal, 60cc 1472* 165cc Street Heads, Stud, 61cc 1400* Now i'm not sure which one I want. I'm adding things as money permits. I have the modes listed in my sig, as well as I just added a bbk 70mm TB and i'm installing a MSD 6AL with a Pro Billet distributer once i get on my winter break. What are the difference between these three heads in terms of performance, streetability (it is a daily driver), idle quality, etc. Also i'm debating on putting i'm debating putting in a cam the same time as the heads, which cam would be nice with the heads. I do want a nice idle however. I'm also planning on keeping my car NA. Thanks, Patrick |
RE: Which AFR 165's?
i have the ones with the 58cc chamber. they add the most power because the up the compression ratio to 9.6:1. my car idles smoother now then it did with the stock heads. my stang is my daily driver and ive never had problems with unreliability.
if you get stud mount you will need new rockers and i believe afr says pushrods too |
RE: Which AFR 165's?
well with only 3cc difference they is not more hp gain..I do believe the 61cc is the pass smog emissions..if you buy the one with stud you will have to buy new rockers

RE: Which AFR 165's?
get the stud mounted if you get pedestal mount and want more cam you'll be stuck with .540 lift max.
make sure they updated the springs/older ones had valve float problems |
RE: Which AFR 165's?
Ok, so they're all pretty much the same then? So far you guys are leaning toward the stud mounted ones because of the amount of lift of the cam, correct?
Also do you guys think i'm going to need bigger fuel injectors? |
RE: Which AFR 165's?
actually me alot fast than u, part numbers 1400,1402, and 1472 are all emissions legal.
i went with bigger injectors when i put my heads in but if you saw my old injectors youd know why. they were literally falling apart. |
RE: Which AFR 165's?
Ok, so now i'm looking around on price. So far this place nearby my house has them for1285. Anyone know where I can get them cheaper?

RE: Which AFR 165's?
i think u should do the 185, many of cars around here with 185 with intakes, big inj and a cam run low-mid 12s and pass a smog test.eitherway go with the stud mount alot bigger bolt so it will not break off
