Vehicle ID Numbers
I bought a book on Mustangs today and there was a section about VINs.
I thought I would see what kind of engine I had -- a 4.6L SOHC V-8 or the DOHC. Just to see if the numbers jive with the book. The numbers are 1FALP45XOVF (then there are 6 numbers after that). This is my understanding: 1FA made by Ford, L has a restraint system P passenger car, 45 convertible GT. According to the book a 4 means V-6 150 hp, W = 4.6L SOHC V8-225 hp and the V = V-8 305 hp. What does the XOV represent? The following F means it was manufactured in Dearborn. Any suggestions? Am I reading the book incorrectly. Is there something I can find on the engine? If so, what and where would I find it? Thanks guys!! |

I am soooo disappointed. How did you come up with that? There was no explanation for the letter "X".

RE: Vehicle ID Numbers
All the GT's came with 2v, only the Cobra's came with the 4v

RE: Vehicle ID Numbers
The 8th digit of the VIN denotes the engine, 4 = v6, x = GT V8 (sohc), The 10th digit is the model year, the first is the country it was built in, the last 6 digits represent the numerical order your vehicle came off the assembly line for that model year
