Default Service Engine Soon and Battery Light Plz Help!

Hey guys I recently bought a ford 2001 manual transmission mustang gt, with only 45k miles. It is my first manual car, and up until today it has been running perfectly. Recently, when I just leave on the stereo{without the car started} it shows a solid yellow light that says {Service Engine Soon} and a red one that shows the battery. When I depress the clutch and hold the brake and start the engine the lights go off. What do these mean and how do I fix it? Thanks for your time!

The battery light goes on because your alternator pulleyis not turning, which means energy is only being drained and not replenished at the same time by the alternator. I'm not sure about the check engine light though.

EDIT: This isn't BAD, but like I said, enregy is only coming out so you're reducing thecharge of your battery alot more than you would while the engine was running

What you save in gas prices at the pump, you'll make up for in engine repair a while down the road

The higher octane, the better. If I could, I'd drive to the track foreveryfill-up and put high-octanerace fuel in haha. But Premium is perfect. It's what I put in my GT. About getting it checked out, take it to any REPUTABLE repair shop with a name you know and trustaround your town. I wouldn't take it to a dealer either, their prices are ususallywayyyy to high.
