car *dies* going down road
[/align]I am working on an '02 mustang that a guy brought to me. I can't figure out the problem and I'm hoping someone on here can help. It has a 4.6L w/a vortec supercharger. Going down the road.. it just cuts off. The dealership says the cam sensor is bad but on my scanner it shows a misfire code. I can't remember at the moment the exact wording on the scanner but it says nothing about the cam sensor. I changed the crank sensor but it's still doing it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
ferrell

RE: car *dies* going down road
the cam sensor is on the driver side of the engine. in the front. under te power steering resivor.
I take it that the car is totally dieing. as in the eng shuts of while driving. does it happen randomly? and when it happens does it start right back up. You possibly may have a bad ground problem. . Also when it dies does the theft light flash?

yes, it does do it randomly. i didnt post in my original message but the ford dealership changed the cam sensor. the car does crank back up going down the road and the theft light does not flash. also.. i checked all the grounds on the engine and the body.. that is what has me puzzled. when i let the car cool down it shuts off about every 2 or 3 minutes and cranks right back up. after about every 2 or 3 crankings you have to hold the throttle half way open to get it to crank.. almost like it is not firing.

when you crank the eng after it dies does the rpm gauge move? possibly bad wiring for the crank sensor.
but if that happened it should trigger a code. which makes me think that the pcm is loosing power or ground. make sure on the under hood fuse panel there a junction were the cables from the battery meet make surethat the power wires are tight and have a good connection. i had a vehicle at work where that was loose and intermitantly die and have no codes.
