Need help ID'ing a part.
 

1992 LX Hatchback

What the heck is the name of the black strip under the windows on the doors? The piece that on tons of LX's you see the black peeling off from sun damage. I can't find a label on any diagram, and even the guy at the Ford Parts Service Center couldn't name it.

I'd like to replace it completely, it's peeling bad, and it's chipped near one of the edges from a crappy thief trying to steal it. (Thank god.)

Also, has anybody just pulled it off, sanded it down, primered it and painted it? I've heard of some people doing that.

That is what a lot of people do. I plan to remove mine and refinish them. Try looking on 50resto. They may have the part.

Door molding.

Unscrew the moldings at the back and push the entire piece towards the rear a little. Check the condition of the posts and the round bushings under it. I dont know if the bushings are sold seperate or not. The posts they mount to are usually rusted. Mine are. Not sure if theyre posts or rivets tho.

Line the molding back up with the holes and push the molding forward. Theres a section on the side mirror that helps hold the molding in place. Screw the endcap back in and youre done.

New ones are about $70 a pair and come with new bushings and endcaps, but no posts.
