headers glow red and after 5 minutes car overheats
i have a 89 mustang lx i bought a new engine 302 block bored over 4 and when i put my new engine in for some reson my headers glow red hot and i can actually see flames lighting the inside of them up someone please help me i tryed setting the timing its a 10* btdcand it still does it it also causes the car to eventually over heat but there ne hestitaing or nething not sure of power loss scared to drive it and ruin my new engine ive also baught ne fuel injectors incase they were bad i now have a new fuel pressure regulator and pressure gauge coming

i was always told this is a timing issuse
whats ur timing set at? did you stab your distributer correctly?

There's a sensor that's not connected or is sending a faulty signal.
At what engine speed is this happening?
The O2 sensors could be reading a lean mixture and causing the ECM to pour fuel into the engine.
Make sure on the timing.If it's set too far after TDC it can cause this also.I wouldn't use the timing marks on the damper for this since this is a different engine.Pull out the number one plug and make sure of the timing mark's accuracy.

the mark on damper is dead on i used a straw to make sure my piston was completely up on the compression stroke then i installed the dizzy then set the timing to 10* btdc i dont think it would be a sensor cause i used all of my original sensors and they were in good working order befor i started ill have to find an ohm meter and test them does anyone know what it should read andyou can see the light inside the headersat any engine speed above 1200 rpm

I dont know much about speed density, you might want to try asking this in the 5.0 tech section to see if you can get someone who can help out
