So I filed a claim at the police department cause some kids vandelized my car. well they got caught and they have to pay for damages. Since it was through the police, my insurance company has nothing to do with it. So will they send me a check for the amount it costs to fix it or do they send the check to the body shop?

A court will have to rule that the kids pay for damages, yes. Then either they, or their parents/gaurdians if they're underaged, will be under court order to pay. If they have no money, then you're screwed. You could try to get the judge to add a provision to the ruling that if they don't pay, that they be found in contempt of the court's ruling, and jailed

If the kid was found guilty you can probably sue him for any other expenses over & above the repairs to your car.. stuff like getting a rental car while yours is in the shop..

If you deal with them in court and they ordered to pay you it may be a timely process. I'f you want to talk to the parents and tell them you will drop the charges if they pay for all the damages, it may be alot easier. If they have alot of money im sure anyone would consider that just to avoid the hassle of the legal system. Court sucks a$$.

Yeah my brother in law had hismotorcycle stolen when he was 18 and they found out who it was and the guy is still paying him today and hes 28 and the bike was only 800 dollars.

Damn that sucks... good luck with it, I'm not going to pretend to be a ****house lawyer but I know a few things. You can either get shafted or you win the world, 50/50 chance.
