Hey all - I know absolutely squat when it comes to cars but I've seen a bunch of mustangs old and new that have these and I've always wondered what they were for: right at the front of the hood there are a pair of cables that wrap up frombehind the grilland clamp onto the top of the hood...what are these for?

Look around through some pictures and found this one that has the wires coming out of either side of the grill and running to the top of the hood http://www.mustangphotos.com/photopo...8/limit/recent

lol those are hood pins bro.
if you have an aftermarket hood u sometimes have to use those to hold the hood down instead of the latch.
a lot of people also put those on their hoods just for looks too.

Yea some racecars have 4 hood pins, one at each corner. Pop off the pins & lift the whole hood off

The actual wires you're referring to are called lanyards. They are connected to the pins that hold the hood down.
