Default n00b questions

I have a couple questions.

One being, I got a check engine light coming on. I got it checked, they told me it's the EGR valve. Is it an easy install? Until it's replaced will that have any effect on my HP or MPG at all?

I got new brakes recently as the others were trashed. They seem to squeal now even more then before, this is braking from almost any speed, it's a horrid noise. I talked to my dad about it as I am completely clueless and he said the person who put the brakes on may have just put cheap pads on. This may be true, but I find it ridiculous they would squeal that consistantly or that loudly. Is he right? or is he blowing smoke?

I was reading about removing the air silencer, does this make any difference on a V6?

-

Thanks!

dont know

cheep pads or wet pads or grease on pads/rotor

slightly more intake noise, but a cai would be better performance wise- either way, air intakes give minimal gains with the stock throttle body. id suggest getting a new cold air intake kit and a good filter that is washable and reusable.

I would really like the codes, because if its a P0401. Dont replace the EGR valve. lol. Its a waste of time, and money. And the CEL will stay on. And if it happens to be the EGR, which i have never replaced on a Stang, because they never needed them, then yes. Its easy install, and yeah it will hinder Gas milage slightly. But not so much Hp.

The brake problem, could be a new brake pad material. Also could have gotten something in there such as a rock against the backing plate. Also youre correct, someone could have put them on wrong. I would yank the 2 bolts on the caliper and remove the pads and check it out.

yea, it doesn't matter how long I've been driving, any time I brake they squeal.

they aren't brand new either, I know brand new brakes make the noise, that's not a noise like you hear when you brake with mine.
