if you get a muff shop custom fab, make sure you get ss piping and mandrel bent tubing. are you going form before the cats back, or are you getting an X/H, or are you leaving the stock y-pipe? a cheaper, louder way to do custom fabs is to get the muffler you want and get it the tips turned down right after the muffler and before the axle.

im planning on to leave the stock y pipe. so if i do turn downs its going to sound louder than the flowmaster pipes and all. and to have it street legal what can i take off the muffler or the cat?

do you have emissions testing? if not and you want to remove the cats- cut off before the y-pipe and that will remove cats, then weld in your muffs and ge tthem to make turn downs form your old piping. although your pressure will not be equalized because they are true duals. option b for no emissions is get an o/r X or H pipe and then the muffs then the turndowns for an insanely loud tone. the y-pipe is extremely restrictive but it is up to you. i still have my Y in but sooner or later ill get some tubing bent to go true duals.

so then would it still sound good if i kept the y pipe? see this is what im trying to do is to make my mustang sound the best but with the cheapest money. thats why i want to do it custom. or i dont know should i spend 500$ and get the whole flowmaster? or like where does an x pipe connect to or do u have to weld that too. then can i put my mufflers on the x pipe. sorry im still kind of a beginner at this stuff. thanks

RE: Custom Exhaust for V6
with yu pipe it will sound way better than stock mainly b/c you will be using 2.5" (.25" larger diameter) pipes and way better free-flowing performance mufflers. but to get it louder you must ditch the stock restrictive y pipe. i got my cat back for 359 bucks shipped and installed and the oold one cut out and scrapped for 60 bucks so for under 450, you can get what i have- and it sounds way better.
edit: if you weld, it voids your exhaust's warrenty if you bought a catback. if it is a custom fab- it doenst matter
