i had to get a new tire today, and the only one they had in my size in stock was a 'matrac' tire. is that ok? i think it said marshall on it too. ive never heard of them...

i plan on getting new rims soon anyway so i dont care that much, but i was just curious as to whether i just put a POS on my rim.,..

I work at merchants and have never heard of matrac. I wouldn't say the tires are pos, but you get what you pay for when it comes to tires.

Depending on the size they sound okay by spec. They're made by Kuhmo tires http://www.tirefactory.net/multimilematrac.html Treadwear rating of 360 and traction and temperature rating of A. You'll find many different 'off' brands are actually made by name brand companies. Cooper and Hoosier tires for example make a number of different brands here in the U.S.

As I understand it, there are only a few actual tire manufacturers. The "house" brands, are made for these stores by these few manufacturers. Are they the same tire. Not likely, they are often made to a different specification to bring the price down. I am not saying that makes them unsafe. But my experience has been that they have a shorter life span, and often more highway noise.

The tire you bought, should easily get you to that new rims, and set of name brand skins, just around the corner.
