so all I need is the 23 tooth speedo gear? What about the drive gear thats on the tailshaft of the tranny? I have heard you have to replace both if you go with 4.10's is this true? Or is the white gear all i need?

uummm... NO! The T56 is in the '03/'04 Cobra and all the Fbodys. You have the T45 tranny.
2001 Mustang GT and 6 cylinder models with code 6 or 5 listed under "TR" (transmission) on the driver's side door manufacturer code label then you have the T45-T5. If your 2001 Mustang has a "K" listed under the "TR" on the door code then you have the 3650.
