Default intake or carburetor

I'm just trying to find out if i can get more horse power out of a new intake or a carburetor set up with a cam and heads and if i go with a carburetor do i still need my computer. I'm oldschool and can pretty much do the work myself . Or if anybody thatlive in houston that knows of a good shop that can do the work thats good. My car is a 1990 lx 5.0 by the way

If you're good at tuning carbs, you can make more power with a carb setup. You can cut out the computer, but will need a distributor to do so completely.

That said, you can make good power with EFI. You already have MAF-based EFI, so upgrading the heads/cam/intake is still viable. Of course, a good tuner would help, but the MAF sensor will help the engine run acceptably without the specific tune.
