Explorer Mustang 5.0 xover questions
Hello Guys
I have a weird question and since I am a member of several other forums in which I own the vehicles for I know how valuable they can be. So when I have a question that may pertain to you guys I wanted to pop over and ask. Okhere we go. Long story short I am swapping in a 5.0 efi motor from a 99 explorer into my 1989 jeep wrangler. What I am looking to do is a mild performance upgrade to the motor while out. From what I have read the explorer 5.0 is basically a detuned cobra motor. It has gt40p heads and cobra upper lower intake and a 65mm tb. SO I was looking at just an upgraded cam and roller rockers. I don’t want to male a fire breathing monster but just a little more than the 215hp stock I have now. Since you guys deal with these motors I was hoping you could help me with which cam and rockers. I was looking at the crane cam rockers but don’t know if I should go 1.7 or 1.7. Any way any help would be great like I said I really don’t want radical I need the reliability of a stocker. But would like a little rumble if you know what I mean.
Thanks

RE: Explorer Mustang 5.0 xover questions
A lot of guys are running the trick flow stage 1 cam. Its not too radical and makes good power throught the the whole rpm range. You will most likely need 1.6 rockers but it depends on cam choice. Im not too knowledgable about the GT40's so i would make sure that the springs are good enough on the heads to handle the lift from the new cam. Hopefully someone who knows about the springs will chime in
