Here's something that may be of interest to you. On my old 05 the drivers floor mat would always crack from my left foot heel digging into the carpet using the clutch. I realize yours is an auto. One day I lifted the carpet and found there was a 3/4" gap between the firewall mat and carpet underlay. I cut a piece of foam from a copper water pipe insulator tube to fill the gap and the carpet would no longer sink. I don't have that car anymore and can't remember if the bottom of the throttle pedal is close enough to that gap, that it could get caught up.
