wiring up an electric fan

RE: wiring up an electric fan
do you like switches catching fire? [&:]
BTW, you don't put a fuse on a ground cuircut
use a relay. it's really easy to wire.
just 2 hot feeds, a ground signal from a switch to close the relay and poof your there. i can draw up a diagram if no one else already has one

RE: wiring up an electric fan
here is the basic switch I put together that uses a relay. Gimme a sec and I will draw up how to connect the wires to the relay.

RE: wiring up an electric fan
alright. when you get teh relay you will see 5 termonals with 5 corisponding numbers for each termonal. the numbers are, 30,85,86, 87 and 87A
connect the wire from the relay to the fan to pin 87. take the fused hot feed to the ralay and place that on termonal 30. Then just take the switched hot feed and hook that to termonal 85 and the ground signal from the switch to termonal 86 and your done

RE: wiring up an electric fan
pretty much. You can run the fused hot feed right off the battery if you like. For the switched hot feed you might want to tap into an Ign fuse that becomes hot when you have the Key in the run position. You will have to get a meter or test light to find out what fuse that might be.

RE: wiring up an electric fan
i wired everything up, just like on the diagram. as soon as i connect the constant hot feed, the fan turns on and a few seconds later the fuse blows (30 amp). it does not matter whether the switch is on or off. it also doesn't matter whether the key is on or off. could my grounds be bad?
also the switch i bought has three prongs, labeled power, ground, and acc. which wire goes were?
please help. tomorow is the last day i have to get this right, because i need the car on monday.
thanks
