302 belt drive accesories? What is this?
Though this may sound like a dumb question I figured I would come to a place where the 302 is well known. I bought an '86 Toyota pickup with a 302 swapped in to it a few years ago. The previous owner believes the 302 came from an '88 Crown Vic. After doing research I'm quite positive that this is a 5.0L 302 that was converted to a carb. Now whoever did the swap really rigged this together so some of this has to be redone. This is running a serpentine belt and still has the A/C pump bolted in. I say bolted, not hooked up. There is no A/C, no lines, just the pump. Other than that it has the power steering pump, alternator, water pump, and tensioner in the loop with the belt. There is one other item that is in this loop and I cannot figure out what it is. Sorry don't know too much about 302's yet. So this last item I'm speaking of is located below the alternator (on the passenger side). It is small and black and appears to have some sort of hookup that has been rtv'd and blocked shut with a plate. I have searched the internet and have come up with no clues. I need to know what it is so I can find a belt to run with out it. Whatever this thing is has nothing hooked up to it and I believe it is just there because the builder didn't feel like buying another belt. It seized up the other day and now I can't even start the truck. Can anybody help me on this? Thanks in advance.
