Need air tools, How big of a compressor?
Hey all,
I already have a 6 gallon Pancake compressor that just isn't doing the job. It doesn't have the torque to rip off suspension components or tighten them down sufficiently.
So, I need an upgrade. What is an appropriately sized air compressor that I can buy for home use? I am not a pro and will not need to run more than one tool at a time. I basically want a compressor that has the stones to do suspension work on the car without worrying about it not applying the appropriate amount of torque.
What size? How about 30 gallon? 60 gallon?

The size isnt always the issue, dont waste ur money.. What type of impacts do u have and what is the PSI ratings on them...I have a 30 gallon just cuz I need more CFM to run paint guns... Your pancake tank isnt the issue, Turn the gauge up to 110 psi. I had a cheap impact gun that wouldnt even take off lug nuts, even with my 33 gallan tank. Bought nice impact and just put on some rear control arms

I have a Kobalt 1/2" Impact from Lowes. It says "90 psi max." Perhaps I should run the pressure a bit higher? My Compressor is a Black and Decker 6 gallon pancake-type. The impact will not break off lug nuts of suspension parts. I have tried to turn up the pressure to max, no luck.
Please reply back with the brand, capacity, and your personal satisfation with your air compressor.

CFM requirements of the tools determines the need for tank size. air griders, dremels and paint guns take much more than impacts do. i have a 33 gal. and sometimes i wish i had a 100.
oneway you can increase you tank size is by running some 6 oe 8 inch PVC Sch 40 pipe along the walls. it's pressure rated for 150psi, and if glued togethered with some care, it makes for a bigger tank. you can plumb for air outlets along the line for easier access.

..your impact wrench is the problem not the tank

Ok.... so I should pick up a beefier impact? The one I have is a 350 ft/lb unit that was part of a $70 two-tool set from Lowes. Has anyone successfully used an impact running on a pancake compressor?
