Default What grid of sandpaper to use?

Hey guys. I am getting some sub frames welded on my 1990 5.0 Lx in the next few weeks. So anyways I took out the interior seats and all... and found there to be some surface rust on the floor pan on the passenger side. So I am going to sand it all down and paint it next week. I am using sandpaper that is a "320" grid? Shoud I use something more corse? It seemed to take a little bit off but not that much. I am donig this by hand as well. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Chef
