Default Wheel Bearing on my 93 4 banger went

Hello all,

Well my trusty DD finally gave me the first problem I've ever had (93 4cyl notch). For the past week or so when I was making sharp turns I could hear a noise in the front rigth of the car, since it only didnt it when the wheel was all the way in one direction I thought it might just be the tires rubbing (just put new ones on). Well yesterday on my way back to work the noise grew loud very quickly and stayed on even when I was going straight...at that point I was about a 1/4 mile from my house so I turned around and managed to limp it back up my driveway. The car would barely push itslef up the driveway as it was metal on metal at that point.

I went to pull the wheel off last night to see if I could atleast see what was going on. There are some metal shavings sprinkled on the caliper however the rotor didnt seem to really move when I shook it...maybe cause the brake pads were still securing it. I did not have any torx sockets so i just left it for the night. I changed the bearings once when I first got the car...but cant remember exactly whats involved. Would I just need to replace the bearing or am I going to have to replace the rotor and/or spindle too? How tight do you tighten the nut that retains the bearing? All help is appreciated!!

not sure of torque spec on the nut (get back to you on that) but the spindle can stay on..... tire off, caliper off, bearing cap, cotter pin, nut. then you have your washer, outer bearing and your inner bearing. grease some new ones up and slap it back on. with your tools about 30 mins at the most.
