If dear 'ol Dad is going to co-sign, and you still live at home, ask if he can put the car under his name so far as insurance, and put you under another vehicle at home if your family has other cars. This is what my insurance agent does for me and my kids. I have done this since they all hit the 16 year old bracket. It helps considerably. My 07 mustang GT with full coverage and also added coverage for my aftermarket SuperCharger, upgraded paint work, and new GT500 wheels and tires set under my name runs 89.00 a month with a 250.00 deductable.
My kids that live at home, I put them under the oldest vehicle we have, like my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee LE, with full coverage and my daughter listed as driving this vehicle, the rate is 42.00 a month.
This has really helped my kids in getting started in the driving world.
